Anyone else think Free time is kinda lame?

I'm really not into the hobbies aspect. It's really irritating how everytime you do something, you gain hobby interest. Just because my sim is using the telescope to gain logic points for work does not mean he's interested in Science. And then the damn phone ringing all the time with hobby people calling. And the stupid pop up thingies everytime they gain/lose enthusiasm. I get every expansion pack for the added interactions and stuff but as for it's actual function I'm not that thrilled.

Still haven't got Apartments, but I like that they incorporated Makin Magic aspects, that's the EP I really wanted. I wish there would be a Superstar one, I loved going to the lot and acting/modeling/etc, and having the stalker was kinda fun...and scary. lol

Custom Stuff!

I had the best collection of Sims 2 custom stuff. It was incredible. Now....can't find it. I think I have one disk with a bunch of stuff on it somewhere, but the rest was lost with my old computer. I can't for the life of me remember the names of them ,but there were a few incredible sims 2 sites, most of which I got from here. anyone have any good ones?

Anyone else have this one yet? Hobbies for Sims!
They can engage in all sorts of hobbies from cooking, to sports to science and nature, arts and crafts and dance and music. Once their enthusiasm is high enough they can enter secret lots dedicated to their hobby where they can hone their skills and enter contests.
Also included in the game is more aspiration rewards and the opportunity to choose a secondary aspiration. Sims who earn aspiration points are rewarded with special skills...Sims with family aspirations can make a special chicken soup that will cure colds, those with fortune aspirations can make money at their pc by financial consulting, and can even play the stock market (for good or bad), and science enthusiasts can search for constellations and even summon aliens! Other aspiration rewards allows Sims to go longer without certain need degradation.
There are new careers, and with them new career rewards. The one I'm most enthusiastic about is the architect's table because your Sims can now frame their paintings! YAY! Also, when your Sims write novels, they actually write a book that you can custom design from a limited choice of options, and the finished book can actually go on their bookshelf to be read, re-read, and discussed with others.
It's much more fun having children around. Sims can learn parenting skills so they can check up on babies to determine their needs, new and very cute cribs are available, there is an activity table for toddlers where they can gain creative and mechanical skills, and you can even teach your toddler a nursery rhyme.
There is another bonus to this ep...switching neighborhoods is quicker and easier. Instead of exiting the lot you were playing into the neighborhood where it exists then changing neighborhoods, you can just click on the options menu and go directly to whatever neighborhood you want directly from a lot.

So far, I am really liking this ep. I haven't had any glitches (yet), and it works well with all my custom content and hacked items. Actually, it has made me slow down a bit in my game playing...I've been working on a breeding program and haven't really spent much (if any) time nurturing the kiddies...I've just used the multi-purpose painting to grow them up to breeding age as fast as possible. This ep is actually making the kiddies much more interesting and I'm keeping them around now so they can develop as many skills and hobbies as possible: it's also fun watching them get chased by bugs!
I give this ep an A!

EA-Land from Maxis, the Sims Company

Apparently EA-Land is online and free. It is supposed to have a basis in the Sims program.
I haven't looked at EA-Land.

Hey, my husband is part of the EA team that's working on the next all-new version of The Sims for the Wii! Right now, they're calling it SimsAnimals. That's the only thing about it that's public knowledge so far. I just did a Google search on it, and nothing about it comes up, so you guys are some of the first to know!! : D

Not sure when the game will be released...so I'm sure I'll have time to find and buy a Wii first...I hope.... ; P

New to this tribe and.......

.......I've never actually played Sims. Everytime I go to Target I see it but not sure which one would be good to start with? I went on Amazon and they have tons of Sims for sale. Can anyone reccommend a good one to start with? There is one where you can build your own city. There's one where you build roller coasters. They all look fun but I have no idea which one I might like best and since money is tight I want to get the best one. Do you guys have favorites you'd reccommend?

One of my Sims' lifetime want was to marry off 6 children. Since college boys are old enough to procreate, I thought it would be funny if he could accomplish this goal while still in college, thanks to the help of my trusty multi-purpose painting. (Yes, I cheat, and no, I'm not sorry...it's just so fun!)
So, 3 girls around the village decided to help Ogden out and each had a set of twins for him. They grew quickly and one by one, each one fell in love with a local and got married. One of the middle children, Miriam fell in love with her childhood girlfriend and the two of them joined in a union and were considering adopting their first child.
What I didn't realize, was that a same sex union does not count as a marriage. When Ogden's last born finally got hitched, I was wondering why Ogden didn't go platinum, but then it hit me...Miriam. In order to make her daddy happy, she had to break up with her girlfriend and marry the only eligible bachelor in the village...a randy, aged Sim I had created as a live-in sitter for another one of my Sim families (I hate nannys...all they do is play pool and pee on your floor).
Well, Ogden's now permanently platinum, so I think I'm gonna have Miriam make-up with her girlfriend and dump the old goat....at least they won't have to adopt a child, because Nanny MacPhearson insisted on a wedding night.

Sort of Newbie Tech support

Hiya!

I have the SIMS 2 Deluxe pack (that has night life). Everything was going hunky dory until I decided to download a few bits of custom content from the exchange (houses, etc). Now I am getting super-often game crashes, especially when my sims are downtown.

I want to get some expansions soon, but I would like to fix this first. Should I save my game files and try to re-install? I miss the filecop. I disable custom content, but it doesn't seem to help. Even the families in non-custom houses are crashing! Arg!

This is a somewhat dumb discovery, but I'm excited by it. I realized that you can put left-over food in your sim's inventory and serve it later. Why do this?
Well, when I started up a legacy game, I had very little money and no fridge yet. So I ordered a pizza, ate a few pieces, put the box in my inventory, and the next morning.....voila, left over pizza for breakfast with no green haze and flies.
I also realized if you want to do a quick "wants" satisfaction, it works well too. My sim wasn't hungry, but wanted cereal. So I made a bowl, had them eat one bite, got the reward points, and made them stop eating. Then I put it in their inventory for later. Works great when that sim wanted to eat cereal in the middle of the day, and you can't make it for dinner.
Plus, ever have those times when your sim is practically starving and the fridge is empty and you have to wait for a grocery delivery? Or a pregnant sim that is suddenly in the red? Kids up earlier than the adults and no kiddie oven? Serve up some plates from an inventory.

It's like a Heloise hint for Sims.

werewolves?

In my game, I cannot get werewolves to visit! I've only had one come to one lot. My sims there made friends with him, but he hasn't been back. Anyother tips? Are there people/werewolves at any downtown lots? Is the boolprop cheat interfering? It is getting rather annoying, I want some crazy werewolves!

I've got my Sim on vacation at one of the Asian-style zen places. She left her pet deer (okay, it's really a dog) at home with the nanny. She's actually pregnant, so I'm wondering if she'll have the baby in the hotel. Somehow, I doubt it, but then it's kinda weird, cuz can I keep her indefinitely pregnant by keeping her constantly on vacation...??

I love to read little tidbits about people's Sims!

Here's one from mine:

I could NOT keep my Sim's aspiration meter up, and he kept having nervous breakdowns, so finally I decided to submit to the whim of his Wants, no matter what they were!

Well, all the guy seems to want is kittens. Kittens, kittens, kittens. As soon as he adopts one, he wants another.

As a result, my Sim has three kittens. He barely pays any attention to them, since he's trying to run a home business, but hey, they shot him up to Platinum, so we're both happy!

Season's Patch

Yay! They finally put out a patch for Seasons that fixes the water wiggler/sinking dogs problem! Now my Sims can get multiple dogs again without worry of having to spend all their days washing the dogs in the bathtub! Yippee!

Why it always pays to save a game

I'm so glad I've gotten in the habit of saving just before a Sim gives birth. Had a glitch yesterday and one of my sims got locked into baby making mode. She had baby after baby after baby...no twins, just repeated births. I finally quit the game without saving after she popped out 6 consecutive babies and gave no sign of stopping. Fortunately, when I logged back in, she just had one little girl and no more. Whew!

Problem with objects (mac)

I'm just playing the Sims 2 (no expansions, no downloads, and I'm on a mac) and I'm having a problem.

Some of my objects will suddenly not work (fridge, shower, etc). I can select them in the game, but when my sims try and use them nothing happens and they walk away. With the fridge I had to buy a new one and put it next to it because I cannot delete these items either, it says they're in use. Does anyone know a fix for this?

Secret Societies

Okay, I'm finally getting closer to getting my Sim to join a secret society at college.... I've befriended one of those Secret Society members before (the ones that walk around campus in a blazer with some kind of insignia on it), but I never knew that you have to befriend a certain number of them! (I finally went to a Sims message board and did a search, to find out how to do it.)

So I was getting closer and closer to my goal...and then one of my Secret Society friends got into my hot tub during an electrical storm and was struck by lightning! He was only a little fried...until he got out and was hit again! The Grim Reaper came for him, so I had to have my Sim run out there and plead for his life. Luckily, she won her game against the reaper, and Secret Society Boy's life was spared!

The funniest part was that this was all during a date at my Sim's home. Seeing as how SS Boy is into Knowledge, and you know how those Knowledge types are always wanting to do crazy things like be saved from Death, after this traumatic experience, the date's rating immediately jumped to Dream Date! Too funny.

Pet adoption took the kids too!

As everyone here knows, I'm having problems with sinking dogs. I think I've pretty much linked to that dratted water wiggler, so I deleted the toy from this one family, but the dogs were still stuck firmly in the hard-wood flooring so I called the pet adoption service to come to get them because I couldn't take seeing them so imobile and miserable.
Well, it seems that the pet adoption agency, not only took the two dogs, but all three children as well! at first I couldn't figure out where the kids had gone, because there is nothing in the mother Sim's memory about them being taken, or even of them disappearing, and they all were very happy, straight A students and in great health...not neglected even in the tiniest bit. I know that if the child protective services takes a child away, the parent is banned from adopting any more children, so I had her call to adopt a child just to see if she could, and sure enough, not only was she able to adopt, but she was actually able to adopt her children back! It takes 2 days to a dopt a child, so her twins are now 2 days apart. But at least she was able to get them back, and they've got a couple new dogs who, so far, haven't sunken into the floorboards.

Servo Upgrade

Maybe someone has already covered this, but I've discovered how to make a Servo into an android!

I used the AgeSimCheat on to turn him into a kid, then an adult, curious to see what happened! Well, he became a regular sim, but kept his Servo stats, power, etc. It's too bad I can't change his appearance tho, I'd make him look like Data from Star Trek TNG.

Oh, and what's really funny is before I did this, the Servo was running with scissors and died, so I had his master ressurect him, but cheaply. So I had a "zombie" servo, lurching all over the place...If I could, I'd have changed his name to "Igor" or "Riff Raff."

Their stuff is so unusual and so beautiful! I'm just in awe of the creators. It's like they tapped into my mind and took things from my imagination that I love but didn't even know were there!

Okay, now I just sound insane. Sorry. But it's a great site, their stuff is easy to download (any required meshes are part of the package), and I haven't had any problems with it in the game; it just looks great!

I finally got my first werewolf! And I didn't even see it happen. I'm playing my Remus Lupin character, and I stepped away from the pc for just a minute and when I come back, he's lurching and howling. It's odd, his appearance changed, but he's not really furry. I had him savage a college student, and the student got all hairy, and lurched away. I haven't had time to really play the characters yet, but it's gonna be so cool to have a teenage werewolf running amok at college.

crazy haunted crap

Sometimes I decide to play families that are already set up because usually there are some strange or fun things programmed into that lot. Lately I've been playing the Strangetown lot, and I keep bumping into fun things. For example, you want to get abducted by aliens? Go to the Curious family. I got each man abducted and a bunch of alien babies.

So last night I decided to try the Specter family.....Olive and Ophelia. Wierd. That place has a ton of graves. If you want to see some crazy haunted crap, play that lot. Oh, and read Olive Specter's memories right away (she dies soon once you start playing that lot). She's been married like twice, and left at the altar once, tons of relatives died, and the wierdest part? She did WOOHOO with the Grim Reaper! And then she had Nervous Subject, who was taken by the Social Worker. So is Nervous Subject's father the Grim Reaper???

The other wierd thing. Once Olive dies, the Grim Reaper shows up with two Hula Zombies, a suitcase and a drink with an umbrella. And I couldn't "plead" for her. Once Olive was gone, the ghosts on that lot got really active. It was impossible for Ophelia to sleep or keep the place from being trashed. I had to mop up water, pull weeds, all sorts of wacky stuff. I finally moved all the graves onto a community lot because it was getting out of hand.

Anybody have hula zombies arrive with Grim Reaper? Anyone able to woohoo with him????

Pets Problems

Okay so I'm loving it so far!! My problem though is that all my Glamour Life objects/walls etc.. are not showing up in my game... they show up as available to buy but when I put them in they're invisible!!!

I'm thinking of un-installing both Glamour Life and Pets and then doing the re-install. *what a drag* Still I got so used to my cool retro stereo and my cool new bed... so I'm gonna check with N99 and see if anyone else is going through this... or if a patch will be released.

Anyone having any issues??

Hey, brand new member here.....nice to meet everyone!

Just wondering.........how many times have you been abducted by aliens? Who's got alien babies?

I read on the Sims2.com BBS that the Curious family in Strangetown has it programmed to be abducted. So I tried it out. Pascal was already pregnant when I started up the Curious household, but then Lazlo and Vidcund both got abducted and pregnant as well. I ended up with four alien babies, because Vidcund had twins. I named the first baby Alpha, then Beta, and the twins are Gamma and Delta.

Now they're all in college together. I had the college alien, Stella, marry and she has two alien babies too. I'm tempted to try and overrun Strangetown with aliens.

I was playing the academie le tour college and one of my male sims joined the greek house. I moved him to the house, but I can't actually find the house on the college campus. So, needless to say, my sim is gone and apparently there is no greek house? has anyone else seen this happen?

I was reading a news article about EA games, and they said that Sims 3 is in developement, and hopefully going to hit shelves somewhere between 2009 and 2010. They didn't say anything else about it, the article was mostly about the fact that the company is doing well and that they've got quite a few of thier core titles with sequals in developement, but I thought I would mention it here for anyone who didn't see it. Automatic dog washer

I have just discovered that the crafted octopus water toy is a fabulous auto dog washer! I had one laying around in a yard, and one of my Sim dogs turned it on by himself and started playing in the water. His hygiene meter went up and up, and so far, my Sims haven't had to give him a bath. Whenever his hygiene meter droops, he just goes and has a blast!
Now I just have to get that toy around to other Sims houses. I only have two Sims who are capable of making this toy. One of them has a shop, but she doesn't have an employee experienced enough to manage. She may just have to steal away a manager from a rival shop.

Craziest thing EVER

So my romance aspiring Sim asks for a blind date from the crazy matchmaker and pays like 4500 big ones. Who falls out of the sky? BELLA GOTH. I couldn't believe it. So I make them fall in love on their first date and ask her to move in with me. She does, and when she moves in she has no memories, no relationships, nothing. And crazier yet, when she moves in, I have the option to move in other Sims. Among those Sims are Brandi Broke's husband, Darren Dreamer's wife, all of the game-created characters dead ancestors, the Grim Reaper, some girl called "Hula Zombie", among others. So I have trespassed into the world of the dead NPCs or something?? So I try to make a few of the people move in, including the Grim Reaper, but all he does is appear on the lot and then disappear. But I'm left with his robes in my wardrobe.

It gets weirder still. Bella lives there for a few days with my Sim and her husband, but I get tired of doing the live in love triangle. Then, one day after starting up the game and loading their lot, I look and Bella is a playable ghost!!!! I try to make her move out and a box pops up that reads, "Bella has died on another lot. Her spirit will return to its place of rest."

Advice for Sims 2

Well, my sims have a happy cycle. They hang out and go to work. Somehow I think that they need to break out of their routines and to start by buying some ingredient sources or by building a room. I don't know... my lack of motivation has crept into my fantasy life. They really want to visit a perfumerie in Egypt, I think. What do you recommend that I do with my sims?

My disk broke!!!!!

SoI was trying to reinstall all my expansion packs yesterday (due to me once again installing the Family Fun Pack of Doom and corrupting the wall graphics in the game), and I was done except for "Open for Business". The thing was 97% done, and it couldn't download one stupid file that isn't even that important. Ugh. So it wont work. I'm pissed.

I actually discovered something good though. If you need to get a new disk, even if it is your fault, due to wear or something, and past the 90 day warranty period, you just send in the disk, an explanation, your contact info and a check or money order for $13 and you'll get a new recording medium, aka disk. Pretty sweet huh? Beats spending another $30 on a new pack.

In other bad computer news, I don't have internet at home so I cant install a new video driver on my computer. Which means I wont be able to play Family Fun Stuff or probably any other expansion packs without getting that weird flashing red walls thing going on. So I am probably going to have to wait to buy a new video card (which I need anyway) before I can play Pets, Glamour Life or Family Fun Stuff.

*cries*

I can probably get it all for Christmas though....*sniff*

Werewolf sighting

Ok so one of my Sims has met the wolf with the glowing eyes. Went by the name of Boogie or Bogie in my game. Now his want is to be a werewolf. He looked like a black dog and showed up at night. Easy to tell the glowing eyes that way. Another wolf was there as well. I'll try to film the werewolf thing if I can get their points high enough. It seems that they are well on their way to being friends though. I'll keep you guys posted when i get back to town.

Okay..so I had a hard drive meltdown on Saturday.. all my sim stuff is GONE! I had to do a fresh install. (joy) and earlier I had downloaded both Pets and Holiday Stuff from the EA store. Everything was going fine.. I mean of course I was sad over losing all my sim peeps and all the custom buildings I built.. and all my hair and clothes downloads... but whatever.. I mean I'll get over it.

I go to re-install Holiday Stuff from the EA Downloader and it's NOT THERE!!! Thank the heavens Pets was still there.. but NO Holiday Stuff.

Then I found out why! http://thesims2.ea.com/holiday/

That's right.. a new "Happy Holiday" pack is on it's way...and apparently my old one isn't even around anymore!!! I can't even find that it EVER existed on the Sims 2 page. Man.. I paid like 15 bucks for that add on....

Anyway.. just had to share my frustration! *shakes fist*

The Flu

There is a flu bug running rampant among my Sims, and I just can't seem to get rid of it. They cough and sneeze, and it seems like just as soon as they recover, they catch it again. The only way I can think of getting rid of it completely, is to isolate all the sims until they all recover, but that is a major pain.
There needs to be chicken soup available for the sick ones

Create Cutom paintings

You need enough creative points to be able to paint a portrait or still life, but this actually puts pictures into your game. I have paintings of Johnny Depp in mine though now I'm going to have to do a Hugh Grant too. He really is yummy, Dare, thanks for the idea. The only problem with it is that is stays in the house of whatever sim paints it and goes away if you move them like everything else they own unless it is in their inventory.

Custom Painting
To decorate your house with custom artwork, first your sim must have a creativity level of 5 and be able to paint a still life.

Have your sim paint and a frame will appear that you can center on whatever you want to paint. If you want to paint a picture of something outside the Sims 2 game, just press C anywhere at this time. This will pause the game.

Use Alt + Tab to exit the game, then open a picture program such as Paint and open the snapshot you just took, it will usually be in the folder: C:\My Documents\EA\Sims2\Storytelling\Snapshot.bmp

Then, you also have to open the picture you want to have in your game. If your picture is too large resize it so it will fit in the original snapshot from the game.

Copy your custom picture on to your snapshot from the game, then save the picture. Use Alt + Tab to get back to your game and your sim will start painting your own custom picture.

Using this trick you can put pictures of your friends or family, web pictures, or anything else in your Sims 2 game.

....how to put data onto a cd? My computer at home automatically runs an options window when you insert a blank cd, so you can choose to burn music onto it, open it or put data onto it, but I can't figure it out on this one at work. I know it has the capability, but I can't figure out how to do it. I know this is more of a tech question, but the data I'm trying to put on a cd is all the hundreds of custom clothing, hair, make up and furniture I have downloaded for the Sims, and I REALLY want to play with it!!! Anyone know what I have to do, like is there some kind of software I can download?

Vampire Love...then no Vampire love

I had the strangest thing happen. One of my characters fell in love with and married a vampire. The Countess became pregnant with twins, but I stepped away from the pc while I thought she was doing okay, but came back just in time to see the Grim reaper leaving...didn't even have the opportunity for my Sim to plead for her life. So, One of my other Sims who has the phone to the Grim Reaper (psychic career reward), resurrected her fully, sparing no expense and the Countess moved out and back in with her Hubby.
Only problem, is that when she moved back in, it was as if they were meeting for the first time. I tried to get their relationship back to their loving marriage, but it's just not happening. They're both 100/100 for each other, but the farthest they will get romantically is a romantic kiss. They can goose one another and caress each other, and she likes him well enough to bite him, but no hearts are popping up and they can't smooch or make-out. Love is just not happening for them any more and I don't know why.
Could it be because she was once an NPC?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Repair Re-Install

Does anyone know if there is a way to do a repairative reinstall for the Sims 2? You know how some programs let you do that to fortify the basics, etc? I think it's doubtful, due to all the expansion packs and shit, I'll probably just have to back up my files and start over, but I can hope. Any suggestions?

Dis-joined families!

Okay so I've got this one family that had 7 kids and throughout time I've had like 3 kids just not show up as family anymore.. I mean it's kind of creepy when Barbie is checking out her son.. and Ken's checking out his grand daughter.. yuck!... Has this happened to anyone else... and if so is there any fix for it? I thought maybe it's like if your family gets to big maybe the game can't keep up with all the lineage or something...

EB Games Store Strikes Out Again

I will not go into the boring details.
I felt desperate and I bought something at EB Games Store. They wasted my time again.
Tomorrow I will go into Game Crazy store for my simming satisfaction .

What crazy stuff has happened to your Sims? Alien abductions, vampire attacks, ghosts, "accidental" drownings due to mysterious disappearing pool ladders, fires, zombies, etc etc.

Music

Anyone download their own music into their games?

I don't really care for their generic, everyman's music so I've just been adding my own playlists to the radio selections.
My Sim's radios now play a selection of celtic music, some Windam Hill selections, Eagles Hotel California, one station with various rock artists, and I just downloaded some wonderful sitar music by Ravi Shankir.

What plays on your radios?

The Grilled Cheese Aspiration

I was messing around with one of my senior Sims today. Had her playing russian roulette with the ReNuYu Senso orb with a low green aspiration meter and all of the sudden the senso orb puffs out a cloud of red smoke and my Sim is now obsessed with the making, serving and eating of grilled cheese sandwiches. Her Lifetime aspiration is to eat 200 of these grilled delights and the only thing she wants to do now is to either serve them, influence others to serve them to her, or eat them.
She also has a new talk option. Yep...she loves to talk about grilled cheese sandwiches any chance she can get. Most Sims she has interacted with are responding to her negatively...I guess she's just the batty old cheese lady now.....

man, this game gets really weird sometimes

So I was wondering.. you peeps out there who LOVE to build.. do you ever find yourself checking out malls, mini-malls, restaurants.. and thinking to yourself how it would work in your game?

I find myself way more checking out places I go to see if I can incorporate the design into my game... it's kinda cool!

Making your own terrain
