Hiya!
I have the SIMS 2 Deluxe pack (that has night life). Everything was going hunky dory until I decided to download a few bits of custom content from the exchange (houses, etc). Now I am getting super-often game crashes, especially when my sims are downtown.
I want to get some expansions soon, but I would like to fix this first. Should I save my game files and try to re-install? I miss the filecop. I disable custom content, but it doesn't seem to help. Even the families in non-custom houses are crashing! Arg!

Re: Sort of Newbie Tech support
Fri, September 7, 2007 - 3:17 PMGo to EAgames tech support. I think the url is listed in the game book. There is a topic that deals with exactly that.
Mine keeps crashing, saying that my sound and graphics cards aren't compatible. They were before. Oh well, at least I can still play it on my laptop.

Re: Sort of Newbie Tech support
Sun, September 9, 2007 - 9:42 AMMaybe try deleting the downloads from your computer?
In Windows Explorer, navigate to, I believe it is, Documents -> EA Games -> Downloads, and just clear out the "bad" downloads...or all of them, just in case!
Then I'd probably restart the computer, just to kinda get a clean slate going, and then run the game again.
Good luck!! -

Mon, September 10, 2007 - 8:16 AMalso...if you disable custom content you have to restart the game a couple times before the content is truly disabled.
There is a file manager program that you can download from the Sims2 site:

Re: Sort of Newbie Tech support
Mon, September 24, 2007 - 7:42 AMI'm still working on this problem. I did all the normal "tech support" things, and it is still locking up and crashing.
I think it might be my virus protection, but I can't really turn that off. Why, oh why do they keep making games that can't deal with my need to have protection from viruses?
Grrr. -

Re: Sort of Newbie Tech support
Tue, October 23, 2007 - 3:13 AMI stopped getting expansions(or playing very often) when I found out OFB crashed after ten min even with no custom content. I got absolutely no help from EA but finally figured out it's an issue with certain Nvidia cards. -

Re: Sort of Newbie Tech support
Tue, October 23, 2007 - 1:33 PMMaybe so. Sometimes I get a crach immediately upon opening a house. There are 2-3 families I haven't been able to play for weeks. Grrr.
Maybe I'll update my video card at some point, although I doubt that will help -

Re: Sort of Newbie Tech support
Tue, October 23, 2007 - 5:13 PMNow see, this is what I don't get. I know that if the game is uncompatible with the video card, it will crash. But, I've been playing my game all this time without any problems. Then I switched my operating system from XP home to XP pro. Now all of a sudden my game crashes every time I try to do anything that involves a sim family. I can open neighborhoods and unoccupied houses, but that's it. I do the EAsy info thing that it says to do, and it tells me my video card is probably not compatible. WTF? Why was it compatible before, but not now?
And I keep forgetting to call tech support and ask them during their business hours.
So I've had to install the game on my laptop, but that now prevents me from getting the expansion packs I still need, becuase it's running really slow with the packs I already have on there. :-( -

Re: Sort of Newbie Tech support
Wed, October 31, 2007 - 10:13 AMAlso, be sure to check how much memory and drive space you have. This games sucks a lot of memory and I find that if I'm low on disk space, or if I'm using too many high end goodies on my lot, then I wind up with serious lag.
I have to periodically dump programs I'm no longer using, do a clean sweep on my pc, defrag, then go into the game and sell off items that are non-essential. I had to finally admit that although it was very cool to have a pirate ship in one's backyard, it was just too much stuff. -
