Anyone else have this one yet? Hobbies for Sims!
They can engage in all sorts of hobbies from cooking, to sports to science and nature, arts and crafts and dance and music. Once their enthusiasm is high enough they can enter secret lots dedicated to their hobby where they can hone their skills and enter contests.
Also included in the game is more aspiration rewards and the opportunity to choose a secondary aspiration. Sims who earn aspiration points are rewarded with special skills...Sims with family aspirations can make a special chicken soup that will cure colds, those with fortune aspirations can make money at their pc by financial consulting, and can even play the stock market (for good or bad), and science enthusiasts can search for constellations and even summon aliens! Other aspiration rewards allows Sims to go longer without certain need degradation.
There are new careers, and with them new career rewards. The one I'm most enthusiastic about is the architect's table because your Sims can now frame their paintings! YAY! Also, when your Sims write novels, they actually write a book that you can custom design from a limited choice of options, and the finished book can actually go on their bookshelf to be read, re-read, and discussed with others.
It's much more fun having children around. Sims can learn parenting skills so they can check up on babies to determine their needs, new and very cute cribs are available, there is an activity table for toddlers where they can gain creative and mechanical skills, and you can even teach your toddler a nursery rhyme.
There is another bonus to this ep...switching neighborhoods is quicker and easier. Instead of exiting the lot you were playing into the neighborhood where it exists then changing neighborhoods, you can just click on the options menu and go directly to whatever neighborhood you want directly from a lot.
So far, I am really liking this ep. I haven't had any glitches (yet), and it works well with all my custom content and hacked items. Actually, it has made me slow down a bit in my game playing...I've been working on a breeding program and haven't really spent much (if any) time nurturing the kiddies...I've just used the multi-purpose painting to grow them up to breeding age as fast as possible. This ep is actually making the kiddies much more interesting and I'm keeping them around now so they can develop as many skills and hobbies as possible: it's also fun watching them get chased by bugs!
I give this ep an A!

Re: Free Time
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 3:19 PMI could use that chicken soup right now. Do you suppose it cures the flu?
I didn't know this EP was out yet, though I knew it was soon. I'm almost tempted to get up out of my sickbed and go get it. LOL Does that make me a die hard Sims enthusiast or what? Honestly, I finally got all the other EP's so now I'm completely up to date. Ah the joys of having a computer with enough space and memory to handle all of that. For the first time, I'm actually thisclose to finishing something I've started, instead of getting bored with it and moving on. I've got a sim who's almost finished her senior year of college, but her fiancee is almost a year and a half behind her. They are living together on campus, so I'm not sure what will happen when she graduates. Will she be allowed to stay until he graduates, or will she be forced to move? Either way, guess I'll find out soon. -

Re: Free Time
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 3:53 AMAh, thanks. Then I guess it will be a lot of phone conversations between the 2 until he graduates as well. -

Re: Free Time
Sat, March 8, 2008 - 7:01 AMAmy, you'll have to play as her fiance for a while too if you want him to age and graduate University.
If you don't care that he doesn't graduate, you can invite him over to your house and ask him to Move In. Then he'll grow from Young Adult to Adult and you can marry him. (I think you may be able to become engaged to a Young Adult, but you can't marry him till he's an Adult.)

Re: Free Time
Sat, March 8, 2008 - 7:40 AMI don't so much care if he graduates, but he will. LOL That keeps popping up in his fears. **sigh**
Oh well, guess I'll have to make him happy.
And I finally got free time. It's great. My female sim finally was able to satisfy that want of "write a novel." I haven't decided what his hobby should be yet. -

Re: Free Time
Sat, March 8, 2008 - 6:46 PMAfter a Sim has tried a hobby or two, they will discover a favorite hobby (the gain bubbles will be highlighted).
I'm not quite sure what determines which hobby becomes their favorite because I have one Sim who lives in the Downtown area, his lifetime aspiration is to own 5 businesses, his skills are high in charisma, body and creativity and low in everything else and his favorite hobby is nature? I would've thought it might be fitness, dance or literature.
For your college couple, it's probably best to get her settled in somewhere and play only your male Sim until he's graduated. As long as she has a phone, he can invite her over and they can still have a good time together, but she won't age and he can get his degree. Then once he's graduated, he can move in with her and they can get on with their lives together. -

Re: Free Time
Sun, March 9, 2008 - 7:05 AMLOL Thanks, Thistle. I'm pleased to report that both my Sims have graduated with honors, gotten married, and are now enjoying their honeymoon. He has taken an interest in quite a few hobbies, and has already earned 3 or 4 memberships. He's one busy guy! I just hope he reserves some of that attention for the kids when they come along (if they come along.) :-)
