Anyone have it yet?
I'm waiting to get a new pc before I get it. I'm also hoping that the people who make up the really good hacks/custom content are busy making some good compatible stuff. I'm so hooked on the custom content I have on my Sims2 game, it will be hard to go back to things like the modesty blur and Ken doll male sims. I am a grown up and no kids go near my pc so I likes my male sims to be anatomically correct. I would also terribly miss my hacked painting where I can easily change my sims' stats.

Wed, April 22, 2009 - 6:29 AMAHHHHH I can't wait for the sims to come out, here (UK) it's out 5th June. Count down!!! However, I never did any of that custom content stuff on sims 2. maybe I should On sims 3. Is it easy to manage and is it actually worth it? -

Re: Sims3
Wed, April 22, 2009 - 7:57 AMI think it is. I tend to avoid the more complicated meshes, but there are certain hacks in Sims2 that make the game much more enjoyable. It's also nice to have a wider variety of hairstyles, clothing, flooring, wallpapers and other stuff. I have downloaded a few things that made the game play a little quirky, but they are easy to delete. I've never had any major issues using custom content. -

Wed, April 22, 2009 - 9:32 AMI like the idea of custom hairstyles and interior deco. I suppose I'll decide to download anything after seeing the game first. Can't wait for it! -

Re: Sims3
Wed, April 22, 2009 - 12:48 PMCustomizing your Sim's clothes and furniture is VERY easy in Sims 3. The options are almost endless just with what the game ships with, so you will be able to have loads of fun with it for a LONG time before considering venturing out to create your own or download more. : ) -

Sorry, not so. I've had the game for less than a week and have only had the opportunity to play one full day and sneak in a couple hours here and there, but I am already wanting different patterns.
Unfortunately, there are more things that I don't like about the game than like. First, there is the building a character mode. I find it much harder to customize a face. There is no option for adjusting the forehead, and very little adjustments can be made with the eyebrows, and I don't like any of the eyebrows in the menu...I want to be able to tweak their shapes a bit, but it just isn't possible. Also, there are no pointy elf ears available. When making my Sims in S2, I would start off with the elf face and customize the shape so that all my Sims had pointy elf ears...I really like pointy ears, and it also helped me tell the difference between my created sims in public places from npcs.
Facial hair is really bad too...there is no option for just a really light 5 0'clock shadow and all the facial hair looks crudely painted...I've seen better facial hair from amateur custom content designers...so far, none of the male sims I have made have any facial hair because the options are so poor. The hair styles are very limited and pretty lame, too. It is nice that the colors can be customized, but it would be great if there was an option of toning down the intensity of the colors. I have tried making a red-headed sim as a gentle strawberry blonde, but it all comes out too intense, not natural at all.
Customizing music...mebbe I haven't learned how to do it right yet, but so far, I have found that custom music can only be put into one radio station. In S2, I was able to put my own music into every radio station and turn off the sim muzak. I loved having my own classical music in the classical station, my own pop in the pop station, country, etc... I listen to a wide variety of music, and would love to be able to have different stations with my own music of different genres in it. This new game is really geared towards young folk, but I am an old fogey and don't want to hear sim hip hop or any sim muzak when I play.
I also don't like the fact that sims can't go into stores anymore. A lot of socialization took place with my Sims2 peeps while they were browsing inside different shops. I also really liked creating my own shops....something I can't do anymore. :(
Things that are missing that should not have been excluded: hot tubs, the cow plant, and alien abductions. As a matter of fact, all fantasy type creatures are gone...no alien abductions, no vampires, nada.....perhaps they are planning an ep around fantasy characters? I hope so...I don't play this game to exactly duplicate the real world...I want some fantasy stirred in, thankyouverymuch.
And I am really, really hoping that the first ep is going to be weather. It was the best thing that ever happened in Sims2 and I really miss it.
One thing I do like is the expanded social interactions, but sometimes there can be too many options...it's hard to find the exact expression or action that I want my sim to convey. I also like the fact that the pregnancies take less time, but I found out that if you want to name your Sim baby, you'd darned well better be playing that household until the baby's born or else they get a game generated name.
All in all, I am hoping that the game will improve with future eps, but I'm just glad I haven't taken sims2 out of my pc yet. The game is okay, but not as great as I had hoped it would be. -

Re: Sims3
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 9:06 AMI hear ya, on a lot of the stuff you said.
Of course, this is just the base game...sort of like when Sims 2 came out, it was like, "What? No magic like the last EP of Sims 1??" So while I was sad that Sims 3 didn't include weather, shopping, animated hair, or alien abduction, it made reluctant sense to me that EA couldn't "do it all" in the first shot.
As far as wanting new patterns already, one trick is to make more than one channel the same exact color so that that part of the pattern disappears. You can kinda mix it up that way. *shrug*
I sadly agree with what you said about eyebrows, hair, and facial hair. There are some more choices in The Sims 3 Store...though not many yet. As for the color being too intense...did you try the color wheel, with the light-to-dark slider below it?
I'm really looking forward to time moving for the entire town, not just my current family, though. (Which is why you don't get to name the baby if it's born to a non-active household.) I can't wait to see what happens generations down the road...for the *entire* town, not just my Sim.
And the open-world gameplay with no loading between destinations is awesome.
And be sure that when you're playing, you tilt your view up towards the horizon from time to time, because the views, especially around sunset and sunrise, are honestly breathtaking.

Wed, June 24, 2009 - 10:27 PMLOL Yeah I have no plans to switch over. I just got really comfy with my Sims 2, and this shitty Dell can't handle the Sims 3. someday the temptation will be too great and I'll switch over, but for now I'm pretending it doesn't exist. lol -

Re: Sims3
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 4:59 PMAlso keep in mind that if you're anything like me, you have several ep's for TS2. TS3 is only the base game with lots of ep's to come. I haven't deleted ST2 with every expansion pack, stuff pack and a butt load of custom content, but still had no trouble loading or playing TS3. It's amazing how fast the base game loads!
I have heard of some people having problems with the game, but it doesn't seem to be dependent on the pc...actually, it seems that people with higher end pc's are having more probs than others. I'm just glad I'm not one of them.
If I can only find a way to put my own mp3's in all of the radio stations instead of only the custom one, and get a few decent ep's, under the belt, this game might be worth something. ;)
Doesn't mean I'm not going to play marathon sessions on Sundays...I'm just gonna keep posting on the TS3 forum and hoping for better.
If I remember correctly, I didn't remove TS1 from my pc until at least a month or more after getting TS2...prolly do the same here. -

Re: Sims3
Fri, June 26, 2009 - 6:57 AMSince my first posting about TS3, I've learned a little more about switching colors within the patterns and it is an amazing feature, but I would still like a brightness slider to lower the intensity of colors.
Another thing that's really cool is the ability to choose the gender of an unborn child by what the mother eats....3 watermelons for girls, 3 apples for boys. One of these days I'm gonna try to confuse the thing by having a preggers mom eat an apple, a watermelon, then another apple, etc.. until 3 or each are eaten. Will I get a hermaphrodite?
I also can't wait til a Sim has triplets!
